about

CHICAGO, Mar. 2 -- Soft Speaker, the Chicago-based quartet that longtime Chicago Sun-Times music critic Jim DeRogatis praised as his "favorite discovery" of the year in 2010, are set to release their debut full-length, I'll Tend Your Garden, on Apr. 19.
"We turned our brains inside out and just decided to leave them that way," said singer/guitarist Paul Foreman. The nine-track psych-rock release was recorded with Brian Zieske (The Academy Is) at Gallery of Carpet Recording in Villa Park, Ill. The band also features singer/guitarist Nick Rocchio, drummer Joe Daley and bassist Blair Douglass.
Soft Speaker came to regional attention as they toured the Midwest and performed several Chicago-area shows over the past two years. An EP (Conditions) surfaced in late 2008 followed by an additional EP, Stranger in The Alps, in February 2010. It was with the most recent release that local scribes discovered the band and attention for the co-ed four-piece grew.
Soft Speaker performs Apr. 1 at The Empty Bottle.
